Early Autumn is a lovely time to visit this picturesque part of the country. Thatched cottages, combined with steam railways and the changing colour of leaves on the trees in a superb arboretum, all combine to make this a very interesting tour.

Your Hotel

Located in a lovely rural setting, approximately 3 miles east of Gloucester, the Mercure Gloucester Bowden Hall Hotel has a Regency style exterior, attractive lawned garden and inviting public areas. The hotel, which has three floors , does not have a lift and there are no ground floor bedrooms. There is, however, a wheelchair lift which enables access to the first floor, where the hotel’s one disabled room is located.

Itinerary

Sunday: We travel to Gloucester, arriving at the hotel late afternoon.

Monday: We pay a morning visit to the charming town of Cirencester. After lunch (not included) we head to Tetbury and the stunning Westonbirt Arboretum, home to one of the most spectacular tree collections in the world, and now featuring a treetop walkway which is accessible to all.

Tuesday: After breakfast we head to Toddington to board the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, taking the train back to Cheltenham and alighting at the Racecourse. In the afternoon there will be free time to explore the boutique shops, pretty gardens
and wide leafy promenades of Cheltenham town centre.

Wednesday: After a leisurely breakfast we will take you into Gloucester where there is plenty to see and do. The Cathedral is certainly worth a visit and the famous Gloucester Docks, whose restored warehouses make this a remarkably complete example of a
Victorian port, must not be missed.

Thursday: We return to Derbyshire.
