County Wicklow is known as the ‘Garden of Ireland’ and on this tour we visit Powerscourt House and Gardens, a magnificent country estate set beneath the Wicklow Mountains and also the famous Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens. Another highlight of the tour will be the guided rail journey along the scenic coastline of Dublin Bay as we travel from Bray to Malahide through the city of Dublin on Ireland’s oldest railway.
Sunday: Travel to Holyhead for the afternoon ferry to Dublin, then travel on to Bray and the Esplanade Hotel where we stay for four nights.
Monday: Today we take a scenic drive through the beautiful countryside of the Wicklow Mountains National Park followed by an afternoon visit to Powerscourt House and Gardens.
Tuesday: This morning we take the train from Bray for the guided journey along Dublin Bay and through the city of Dublin. On arrival at the station in Malahide we will be provided with tea or coffee and scones. There will be time to look around Malahide, before we return to the hotel by coach.
Wednesday: After breakfast we head for the Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens, where there will be an opportunity to see champion race horses and explore the beautiful gardens.
Thursday: After a ‘Grab & Go’ breakfast at the hotel, we head back to Dublin Port in time for the morning ferry crossing to Holyhead which includes breakfast on board. After our arrival in Holyhead we begin the return journey to Derbyshire.
We will be staying at the Esplanade Hotel, a Victorian hotel situated on Bray’s seafront promenade. All the bedrooms are en-suite with TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities and most are served by a lift, although some are also accessed by a few steps and there are only two rooms with walk in showers. Sea view rooms are available on request but are located in the traditional part of the hotel and may be ‘quirky’ in style and reached by the lift and steps.
The hotel offers afternoon tea and an Irish coffee after dinner on the last night, plus a one hour guest lecture followed by coffee and biscuits.
Guest lecture, train journey and admission to Powerscourt House & Gardens and the Irish National Stud & Japanese Garden are included
