Itinerary

Monday: Travel to Chester, arriving at the hotel late afternoon.

Tuesday: We begin the day in Chester with a tranquil 30 minute cruise on the River Dee including commentary. The remainder of the morning is at leisure to explore the pretty medieval streets and city walls. After lunch (not included) we travel north to the  Wirral Peninsula to the award winning Ness Botanic Gardens.

Wednesday: Today we enjoy a leisurely drive past Ruthin before travelling over the spectacular Horseshoe Pass to Llangollen. Here there will be time at leisure before we make the short transfer to Froncysyllte to join a canal cruise across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, or ‘Stream in the Sky’, then through the beautiful Vale of Llangollen. An interesting commentary will give visitors an insight into the history of the area.

Thursday: After breakfast we travel to Northwich for a ride on the magnificent Anderton Boat Lift. Originally built in 1875, this structure lifts passengers aboard the elegant Edwin Clark boat from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal high above. A comprehensive visitor centre houses an exhibition focusing on the lift’s history together with its control centre, so visitors get close to the action. Our driver will then be ready to take you on to the pleasant market town of Nantwich, before returning to the hotel via the lovely lakes at Ellesmere.

Friday: We return to Derbyshire.

Cost shown is per person for half board sharing a double or twin room
